Connecticut College associate professor Canton is the author of Raymond Pace Alexander: A New Negro Lawyer Fights for Civil Rights in Philadelphia, winner of the 2011 W.E.B. DuBois Prize from the Northeast Black Studies Association. His academic research and reviews have been published in the Journal of Urban History, the Western Journal of Black Studies, the Journal of Southern HistoryPennsylvania HistoryReviews in American History and the Journal of Mississippi History. Canton is the Director of the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity at Connecticut College
