Ithiel Town
Famous for his Gothic and Greek Revival and Egyptian architectural styles, Town (1744-1844) was responsible for erecting the first truss bridge (Town’s lattice truss) in the United States in Whitneyville in 1823. He designed and built the Trinity and Center Churches on the New Haven Green. He and his firm designed the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford as well as the state capitols in Indiana and North Carolina.
